Informational Interviews are a valuable tool to learn about a particular job, field, or company you are interested in pursuing. Some key benefits of these conversations can include:

• Clarifying your career goals to make more informed decisions
• Identifying necessary skills or qualifications to develop

Sign Up for an Informational Interview  

The Data Science Minor will be facilitating informational interviews for students pursuing the minor during Autumn Quarter 2024. 

In the program, students will be paired with an industry professional working as a Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Data or Software Engineer, or a similar role. Most professionals participating in the program graduated from the University of Washington with a Minor in Data Science and with a range of majors.

Students best suited for this program feel they can learn from anyone they are paired with and are open to exploring a range of industries and data roles. No prior informational interview experience is required. Parings will be assigned based on factors such as similar academic background, topics you are hoping to learn about, and program capacity. There is no “perfect match”, and there is a chance you may not be paired with your ideal interview candidate. 

Informational interviews must be held by the end of Week 10. It is the student’s responsibility to reach out and schedule the interview once they receive their pairing. A mandatory orientation will be scheduled during week 4 that will review the process, benefits, and prepare students for a successful informational interview. 

The estimated time needed to participate in this program is 2-3 hours over the course of autumn quarter. Students should only sign up if they are certain they can dedicate the necessary time. 

Students interested should fill out the sign up form, linked below, by October 11, 2024 and will hear back during week 3 about their interview pairing.
