Advising
Students who want to discuss the Data Science minor, find courses for the minor, or discuss their minor requirements should come to virtual drop-in advising session to speak with an adviser (see times below). Students may also email advisers with questions. Please include your student ID number when contacting us.

Declaring the Minor
Any undergraduate student currently declared in a major and who has completed at least 45 credits can declare the minor. To declare, please reach out to your major departmental adviser, not the data science minor advisers.
Review Minor Requirements
To earn a Data Science minor, students must complete at least 25 credits:
- One Data Studies course
- One Data Skills course
- CSSS 490
- Additional electives (from any of the course lists) to reach 25 credits
Additionally:
- At least 15 credits must be taken at the 300/400 level (in other words, only 10 credits of your minor coursework can be 100/200 level classes).
- You are allowed to overlap 10 credits of minor coursework with major requirements.
- A maximum of 4 classes from any list can count toward the minor (i.e. you are only allowed to use 4 data studies or data skills or cross cutting class to count toward the 25 credits. Should you take more than 4 classes in any one category, the additional classes will not count for the minor).
- A maximum of 10 credits from one course prefix (e.g. INFO, GEOG, STAT) can count toward the minor. (Should you take more than 10 credits from any one prefix, the additional credits will not count for the minor.)
- The prefix restriction does not apply to students who declared the minor prior to Winter Quarter 2025.
