Submit a Course Petition
If you took or plan to take a course that you believe could count for the Data Science Minor, you can submit a petition to have the course evaluated. Check the list below first to see if a course has already been evaluated and declined.
Petition a Course
Follow these steps to have a course evaluated for your Data Science Minor.
- Check whether the course has already been evaluated and declined. Search the list below to confirm before you submit. If your course is on the previously declined list, it was considered for all course categories in the minor and will not be reconsidered.
- Special Topics courses and Research or Internship credits will not appear in the list below. They require their own petition each time, because the topic or experience differs for each quarter and student.
- If your course is not on the previously declined list, submit the Data Science Minor Course Petition form.
- The form will ask you to state which minor course category you believe the course fulfills and write a statement explaining why you believe this course is an appropriate substitution. A syllabus is required. If you are petitioning research or internship credit, be prepared to upload a letter from your faculty member or supervisor that describes what part of your work is relevant to data science and includes the quarter(s) or timeframe of your work.
- The Data Science Minor Executive Committee evaluates petitions at its next meeting. The committee meets twice per quarter in autumn, winter, and spring. No petitions are evaluated during summer quarter.
- A Data Science Minor adviser will follow up with you by email shortly after your petition is evaluated. If it is approved, a DARS exception will be made so the course counts toward your minor.
